One of the very first things you have to decide in the building process is the style of your home. Making this decision is important, because the rest of the decisions you make will play off of it. There are several styles you can choose between, but we are going to go over the most common ones we see.
1. Modern home design emphasizes in clean lines, geometric shapes and open floor plans. Modern homes have lots of natural light and are designed based on a neutral color palate.
2. Farmhouse home design focuses on wood beams, shiplap paneling, barndoors, and open shelving through out the house. Covered Porches are a must.
3. Cottage Core embraces a mix of patterns, textures, oversized pieces, and lots of warm woods and colors. This romantic, nature-driven design trend calls for cozy spaces decorated with rustic touches.
4. Colonial homes have pitched roofs, chimneys, and symmetrical architecture. They have beautiful entry ways as well and are the opposite to open floor plans.
You will need to pick a style first, because as you can see in the options above, a lot of the characteristics are in the build not decor. Knowing the style of your home in the early stages will help you pick the floor plan, window placement, the door arches, the shape of the roof, the size of rooms, and lots more.
